New Running Shoes Make A Huge Difference

New Running Shoes Make A Huge Difference

So having realised that my running shoes had done somewhere over 500 miles, and that even short runs (like last Saturday’s jog around the park with Von Smallhaussen) were causing my knees problems, it was time to get a new pair: Yep - I went for another pair of Asics Gel Cumulus (my fifth...

I Need New Shoes

Meh. I think my running shoes have done about 550 miles, and on last night’s run , this was definitely showing. Sore knees pretty much the whole way round. So I’m hobbling off to the running shoes shop just as soon as I can! Pedal In CIRCLES

Pedal In CIRCLES

Spin classes. Kinda fun . . . and you get out of breath and you sweat a lot. And there’s the sort of music that I’d usually run a mile from, but it just adds to the fun. BUT… I’m not sure spin classes are that good for your cycling - for two reasons: I pedal...

The Perfect Combination?

Whenever I start to push the mileage, I end up with a distinctly sore back-side. I’ve tried all sorts of different saddles and different set-ups - tilted up, down; moved fore and aft, a little higher & a little lower, but to no avail . . . . . . until now. Here’s what seems to...

The Highs and Lows of This Week - Wife’s Crash

I’ve had an unusual week. Full of highs and lows. On the plus side . . . My ride to work on Wednesday was just brilliant, despite the weather’s attempt to rain on that particular parade. And as I explained to the people from Sustrans - my skin’s waterproof. On that ride . . . I...

Oh That’s Soooo Good!

The injuries I picked up last year in training for the Steelman just aren’t healing by themselves. Basically my plantar fasciitis and achilles tendonitis - both typical running injuries - are getting agrevated / prevented from healing by cycling. And we can’t have that! So today was time for desperate measures - the experienced hands...

Something Ugly Beneath The Paint

Something Ugly Beneath The Paint

So there’s this crack in the paint on Trixie The Fixie - near the base of the downtube, just about where it enters the bottom bracket’s lug. It’s been bugging me for a while, so a couple of days ago I took a small grinding tool to it to strip off the paint &...

It’s Your Own Damned Fault!

It’s Your Own Damned Fault!

This today via Adrian Fitch’s Random Ramblings - a story about bicycle helmets, accidents and blame as reported in BikeRadar. Putting it simply: Involved in an accident on a bike? Hit by another vehicle, and suffer a head injury as a result? Weren’t you wearing a helmet? Then you’re partially to blame. Maybe. Or at least that’s one...

Last Alpine Run

On our last morning in the Alps, I took a short run down to La Tania to pop our last few post cards in the post box. I ran back up to the chalet along the open ski-runs, and did two good turns for the day: There’s a flat section from the village centre to...
