Today is Thursday, which means a 06:30 run with Shana. After her fall on Tuesday, she’s got some great scabby knees to show off and a great blue bruise on the left one.
I’m not sure if running is like cycling, where you get to boast about your falls and show off your scars for...

Shoulder Injury - Root Cause?
Riding Wilf this week, my left shoulder’s been sore again. By sore, I mean aching from my elbow, right up over the shoulder to my neck just below the ear, with the sort of pain that threatens to make me go cross-eyed.
I was somewhat underwhelmed with the physiotherapy I had in the summer, and...

Winter Training Plan
Every year, I tend to let my fitness slip over the summer - my high hopes and ambitions get dusted with pollen & generally sneezed over. This year I’ve managed to avoid this, though through August & September, there was a little trailing off on the hours. Maybe all those races had something...

Short Swim - Shoulder STILL not 100%
So after the short strength training session, I dipped into the pool to cool down. 50m as a warm up, then an easy 400m, and another 50m to finish.
It felt OK, but now my shoulder and neck are feeling a little odd again. I was going to start with the NE31 Tri Club’s swim...

Man Down! Medic! Meeeeediiiiiic!
No, not me.
Far worse - Daughter.
I thought we’d try going out as a threesome this evening - me running with Huge Dalmatian, and Daughter cycling. She wanted to go all the way to the end of the Tyne’s North Pier (about 4.5 miles round trip), so this looked like being a really good workout.
Trying...

It’s Hard To Be Good
This morning was just beautiful when I was out running with Shana - clear blue sky, sun just over the horizon, the tide high & sea flat.
In fact, the sea looked rather too good. Too tempting. As we ran past the harbour, I could see that the recent calm weather had really done wonders...

You Think Your Injury’s Better, But It’s Not
This evening I was supposed to be going to the NE31’s swim session. But that’s always a tough session, and after only a couple of 100m repeats on Friday, my shoulder was feeling a bit rough on Saturday (kinda aching all the way from shoulder to elbow), and I’m racing again this weekend, so...

Hartlepool Marina Triathlon - Results & Reflections
So today the official results for the Hartlepool Marina Triathlon are out . . .
There were 90 finishers on the day, and I did:
Swim - 84th; 23:01
Bike - 65th - 41:59
Run - 40th - 20:07
Overall - 67th - 1:25:07
In a way, I’m a little disappointed - I finished just outside of the bottom quartile.
BUT...

Swimming with the Black Dog
Actually, I don’t suffer from depression. Not real depression - just the regular kind where sometimes things get on top of me, and I end up a little down.
But Thursday’s swim with the NE31 Tri club wasn’t much fun at all. I’d almost ducked out of it on the way there - my shoulder...

Swim-BIKE - Part II
. . . . that run home from the beach left me pretty puffed. I’m not sure if I was pushing too hard at it, if the swim was tougher than it seemed (especially the last 40 yard, being chased by a jelly fish!), or if running in a wetsuit is just harder than...
