This made me laugh today - it was on Copenhagenize.com, and in a way sums up how it feels to ride to the shops instead of walking or driving:
I don’t know if you think like me, but I was surprised by the second half - I thought the bike was going to disappear from...

After yesterday’s post about how nice and straight the path alonside the Coast Road is, I got thinking about nice direct routes, and traffic-free routes in general.
It’s just so much quicker to get to the centre of Newcastle by going direct, rather than the routes I usually take, that I struggle to understand why...

When I was riding through North Shields today, I passed a woman riding an old mountain bike, with mudguards, paniers and a basket on the front. She was going rather slow, but seemed to be really working hard at it.
As I pulled level, I could see why - unlike the lady in the photo...

I have a love/hate relationship with bike lanes and cycle tracks. Too often, they’re like the little girl from the nursery rhyme.
She rode down the street on a bike that she’d borrowed,
When bike lanes were good, they were very, very good,
But when they were bad, they were horrid.
OK, so I’ll probably wait a long...

I found this video on YouTube about the debate in New York. It’s three years old, so if you’ve visited / live there, I’d love to hear if there have been any changes:
As far as segregtion & integration goes, I’ve still not yet made up my mind. I look at what has been achieved...

Coming to probably quite small screens on a desk top near you:
*UPDATE* The full version of this video is now featured on this blog post, along with details of how I feel Nick Clennett, Gateshead Council’s Head of Transportation and Highways has let us down with the sub-standard bike facilities around Gateshead College’s Baltic...

Somehow this completely passed me by last year - Change Your World a Sustrans campaign about getting people to use their cars 10% less. Of course, car use actually dropped by 12% last year, though everyone seems to be saying that this was due to the economy going into free-fall. Or as our Prime...

Show these two films to your friends who don’t ride bikes:
a) The Plight of The American Biped (via Tom Vanderbilt & EcoVelo amongst others):
Vs
b) Happy Birthday, Velib!
Ask which society they’d rather live in. On the assumption they answer b), ask when they’re going to and ride it to work / school...

Meh! Driving.
It’s just now how I expected it to be - certainly not the way it was portrayed in all those adverts. I mean, I already have the foxy Wife, and lovely Daughter, but where were the wide open roads so I can pretend to be a Formula one driver:
. . . where’s my...

Some people love the architecture, and some loathe it. Let’s face it, there’s a certain element of Borg Cube about it, and some of the tenants are cyborgs. The receptionist also once told me that “resistance is useless”, though that’s an entirely different story.
But as an office space the Quadrus Centre’s not bad at...
