Civilised, Long-distance Commute

Civilised, Long-distance Commute

Thursday is a bike day. We won’t let the weather, the clients we have to see, or the errands we have to run put us off doing it all on two-wheels. And this week, I had all three - cold & drizzly first thing in the morning; a meeting with a client that required...

Wife’s Got A New Bike!

Wife’s Got A New Bike!

After falling off Lilac last year & breaking her arm , it’s taken quite a while for Wife to want to ride a bike again. First of all there was the weeks & weeks spent in a cast, then the physio, and then it was winter (remember the weather? Even I was reduced to...

I Used To Like Kitkats

Actually, I had quite a thing about them - especially the heroin peanut butter ones. The Von Smallhaussen pointed out that they were made by Neslé - a company that some would say has a problem with ethics. So I stopped eating them, and all other Neslé products. And now this from Greenpeace : Lovely.

Road Signs For Riders

Road Signs For Riders

There’s been some chatter recently about road signs. Apparently there are a whole new set of ‘em being rolled out across the US, as shown here on cyclelicio.us : In the UK, we’re seeing more of these ones, which allow bikes to contraflow the wrong way down one-way streets: Strangely, I’m not so...

What’s A Bike Cost*

I was reading this post over on World Wide Cycles’ blog about the very reasonable prices you can pay for a second hand bike that’s been ridden by Lance Arstrong. At the moment, I’m thinking about building up a tri-bike for next year. I’ve identified a carbon frame in clear lacquer, and I’m starting to...

There’s something going on, y’know. It seems that this thing where women cyclists in That London are at more risk than men are just refuses to go away. According to this report by the BBC , women account for only 27% of the capital’s bike journeys. Yet of the eight cyclists killed by drivers of...

New Cycling Jersey

New Cycling Jersey

So if I’m going to be riding wearing non-regular clothes, I thought I’d better take a look at my wardrobe. Remember just over a week ago, when I was wondering about muggle-repelling cycling jerseys ? Well I eventually decided on a design that I liked, and doesn’t use any recognised UK police devices, thereby not...

Is This The Bargain Of The Year?

Is This The Bargain Of The Year?

Sometimes I can’t figure out if I’m poor, have an eye for a bargain, or am just plain tight. And not in the sense that Cameron from the Sarah Connor Chronicles would use to describe someone who’s cool either. So when I noticed that Evans Cycles were having an early summer sale, I was intrigued....

Igor! Fetch Me Body Parts!

Igor! Fetch Me Body Parts!

Yeth, Mathtur! Fresh body parts, sourced by my assistant, Igor, from Recyke Y’Bike, in Byker. No Genius should ever be without an assistant like Igor to help procure stuff like this. The only question is, should I re-spray it, or leave it in its original colours? What do you think, Igor?

Getting Hassle From The Man

Getting Hassle From The Man

It’s taken me a week to get to write this post, as I was hoping to get CCTV footage of what happened. Unfortunately the response from my Freedom Of Information Request was that the camera overlooking the scene was not working. So you’ll have to take my word for this. Last Saturday afternoon, we all...
